Volunteer Program in Peru
AMAUTA VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The AMAUTA Volunteer Program provides the unique opportunity to live and work in Peru. Students will experience first-hand its rich cultural diversity while cultivating a superior level of Spanish proficiency. Through the Volunteer Program, AMAUTA and the volunteers are able to make contributions to Peruvian society and to help bridge the gap between foreign visitors and native Cusqueños.
|
TYPES OF VOLUNTEER PLACEMENT |
| Participants may choose both, the field and preferred location, of their volunteer placement. Possible fields of interest include social work, education, tourism, cultural work and catering. While most of AMAUTA's projects take place in Cusco, there are also projects out of the City. A complete list of the 30 projects can be sent upon request. |

SUPPORT OFFERED BY AMAUTA
Upon arrival to Cusco, students receive an information package with preliminary information regarding the volunteer work experience. AMAUTA organises an introductory meeting with general information about Peruvian history and culture, working in Peru as a foreigner, cultural differences and social hierarchy of Peruvian society. During a student's course of study, he/she will have the opportunity to personally discuss the appropriate placement in terms of goals, desired experiences etc. with the Volunteer Coordinator. During the placements, the weekly volunteer meetings enable volunteers to talk in general about their experiences and raise any concerns.
SPANISH COURSE
A four-week Spanish course (minimum), either One-one-One or Group, is included in the Volunteer Package, enabling the student to communicate in Spanish. Students may also do part of their study in Sacred Valley or Manu.
>> Click here to know more about it.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION AND MINIMUM COMMITMENT
Students will need to have a minimum of eight weeks to dedicate to the Standard Volunteer Program. The first four weeks of the program will be spent studying Spanish; the volunteer placement will continue four weeks more. Extra weeks can be added; if you have a longer period of time available, you can consider participating in our Volunteer Plus Program. During the Spanish Course students can choose where to stay: with a host family, or in our Student Residence. During volunteer work, students will be staying at AMAUTA's Student Residence with other students and volunteers.
VOLUNTEER FEE
While participation in the AMAUTA Volunteer Program is completely free (all students pay is their course and accommodation), all volunteers are requested to pay a Volunteer Fee. This money will be used to support the projects. According to the most urgent needs of the projects, either we purchase food, or support the projects with their infrastructure (we purchase paintings, or help fixing a toilet, a broken window etc.), or we purchase educational materials. |

While volunteering, different activities (meetings, workshops, extra Spanish Classes, hikes on Cusco's outskirts) will be organized. Volunteers can count of the continuous support of our Volunteer Coordinator that will have at least one personal interview with each volunteer and take him/her to the project the first day of work.
Volunteers are placed in orphanages, schools, hospitals, projects for street children etc. Opportunities for non-social volunteer work (tourist agencies, teaching English, etc.) are also available. AMAUTA can mail a complete list of all Volunteer Projects (subject to change) upon request.

Most participants have studied some Spanish before and/or have basic communication skills before.
In contrast with the Standard Volunteer Program, there are different projects available in the Volunteer Plus Program where volunteers participate a longer period of time. During this prolonged working commitment, a more substantial patronage can be offered. A day trip to the famous lost Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu is included.

AMAUTA TRAINEE & INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The AMAUTA Volunteer and Internship Programs provide the unique opportunity to live and work in Peru. Participants will experience first-hand the rich cultural diversity of Peru, while cultivating a superior level of Spanish proficiency and gain a work experience in an international environment.
The AMAUTA Trainee Program is especially designed for students and newly graduates who are looking for a challenging working experience abroad. Working experience abroad looks great on a resume. Furthermore, most participants finish our program speaking fluently Spanish. This, added to the work accomplished in a different culture and circumstances, will be greatly appreciated by future employees.
TYPES OF TRAINEESHIPS
We have variety of vacancies, such as working in a hospital, organizing sport competitions, teaching orphanage boys to be cooks or working in a luxurious three star hotel.
AMAUTA offers traineeships in the following fields:
- Tourism
- Gastronomy
- Medical Field
- Social/Legal Work
- Education
- Automation
- Arts & Handicrafts
- Sports
Please let us know in case you have any special requests; we will be happy to tailor a traineeship to specific needs!
Working and living in Peru might be quite a challenge. Thus, it is important to rely upon an organization with years of experience and contacts throughout Peru. AMAUTA was founded in 1996 and has a nationwide network of contacts. In addition to arranging traineeships AMAUTA also helps the participants with their Spanish classes, accommodation, cultural activities and excursions. This allows the trainee to concentrate on the things that are really important, such as the content and the quality of the traineeship.
SPANISH COURSE
A four week Spanish course (either one-on-one or group), is required for all the trainee positions, which should enable a complete beginner to communicate in Spanish upon finishing the course. The course includes grammar, conversation, listening, reading and writing. During their placement, trainees can attend our specially designed Spanish Classes for Volunteers once a week, totally for free. This will allow them to rehearse their Spanish in an informal and entertaining way.
ACCOMMODATION
During the Spanish Course, the participants will choose where to stay: with a host family, in our Student Residence or in one of our Student Flats. During the working period, the trainees will stay in one of our luxurious student flats. All student flats are located in the residential neighborhoods in Cusco and are fully furnished and equipped.
REQUIREMENTS
The traineeship program is designed for students or recent graduates in all fields with a minimum age of 18 years old. The only formal requirement is a minimum commitment of twenty weeks. The first four weeks of the program will be spent studying Spanish; the traineeship will continue for at least sixteen more weeks. In order to work in some of the organizations, the participants might have to take more than four weeks of Spanish to reach a more advanced level of Spanish. After consulting with our academic coordinator we will determine the length of Spanish study. Furthermore you will have to meet the requirements of the placement of your choice (if any). Contact us to check the Internship List.
